Bertram Wiedenmann, M.D., Ph.D., is Senior Professor (2018 until now) and former head of the Departments of Hepatology and Gastroenterology at Charité Medical School in Berlin, Germany (1997-2018). He was the initiator of the ENETS Center of Excellence and cofounder and long-time treasurer of the European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (ENETS). Currently, he is head of NET Research at the Charite Medical School. His major research interests are molecular and cell biology involving especially cellular signal transduction pathways in the field of gastrointestinal oncology combined with numerous clinical studies in the field of NET research.
From 2014 until 2021, he was part and in 2017 Chairman of the Steering/Program Committee of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), GI-Section.
Past his medical studies at the Technical University of Munich Medical School in 1980, he completed a Fulbright Research Fellowship in hematology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, NY, USA (1980-1982)and was a research associate in cell biology at the Biological Laboratories, Harvard University (1982-1983), and at the German Cancer Research Center, Heidelberg, Germany (1983-1984). He is a member of AGA, ASCO, and ESMO. He was the member of the steering committee of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Charité (2012-2018) and coordinator of the site management organisation (SMO) for clinical studies (KKS Charité) at the Charité Medical School (2002-2016).
Prof. Wiedenmann published together with his colleagues more than 1000 peer-reviewed papers incl. Nature, Nature Reviews, Nature Cell Biology, Nature Genetics, Cell etc. and is a reviewer for many international and national journals.
