Professor Thilo Hackert is the Chairman of the Department of General, Visceral and Thoracic Surgery at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf, Germany.
After receiving his medical degree from the University of Heidelberg, he continued surgical education in Heidelberg and specialized on visceral surgery with a focus on pancreatic diseases, both clinically and scientifically. He became associate Professor in Heidelberg in 2012, head of the section for pancreatic surgery in 2014 and vice Chairman of the department in 2018. Besides doing all types of general and visceral surgery as well as liver, kidney and pancreas transplantation, his special focus is robotic surgery since 2016.
Today, robotic surgery is increasingly performed for all types of colorectal, liver, gastro-esophageal and pancreatic resections including oncological indications and is a focus in Hamburg-Eppendorf, too.
In 2022, he was appointed full Professor of Surgery and Chairman of the Department of General, Visceral and Thoracic Surgery at the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf and started working there in 2023.
He has worked in committees for National Guidelines (chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer) as well as the European Guidelines for Cystic Tumors and as Council Member for Clinical Science in the European Pancreas Club.
